Should You Fight Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins?

Engaging Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins is a formidable challenge. From personal experience, it took over an hour to emerge victorious against this legendary warrior. However, there are compelling reasons to take on this battle.

First, the prestige of defeating Lu Bu is unparalleled, offering you bragging rights among fellow gamers. Second, depending on your chosen faction, Shu or Wei, you may be forced to confront him during the Battle of Xiapi in Chapter 4. Moreover, defeating Lu Bu at the Battle of Hulao Gate earns you the prestigious "The Strongest" trophy. Additionally, triumphing over him in the post-game rewards you with the game's ultimate weapon, the halberd, making the fight highly rewarding.

Lu Bu’s First Phase

Preparation is key before facing Lu Bu. Equip a weapon like a sword that can deliver multiple hits and stagger him. Choose Battle Arts that are quick to activate, require minimal Bravery, and cover a wide area. In my successful battle, I used Falcon Flurry, Mad Blade Rush, Absconding Slash, and Flying Dragon Slash. Accessories such as Divine Bird’s Wing and Divine Turtle’s Shell, which boost health and defense, are crucial as Lu Bu’s attacks are devastating. Opt for a weapon with a skill that grants Bravery upon Perfect Evades, as this will be essential for sustaining your offensive capabilities.

Initially, Lu Bu enters the fray on his horse, Red Hare. This phase is relatively straightforward; Lu Bu charges around the battlefield. He pauses occasionally, providing windows to strike with your Battle Arts before retreating. His attacks have limited area of effect, except for Red Hare’s aerial slam, making them manageable to dodge. Once his health drops to 80%, Lu Bu dismounts, and the real challenge begins.

Lu Bu’s Second Phase

Lu Bu grabbing the Wanderer in Dynasty Warriors: OriginsLu Bu, now on foot, becomes a relentless force. His attacks are swift and he moves rapidly across the battlefield, often enveloped in a red aura that makes him immune to staggering. Be vigilant for his triple charge attacks; evade them and prepare for another onslaught. If he charges without his spear, he’s attempting a grab that can severely deplete your health – evade this move as you would his charges.

His most lethal move is signaled by an orange glow. With minimal preparation time, he unleashes three massive arrows thrice, which can juggle and obliterate your health. Counter this with a long-range Battle Art like Absconding Slash. Avoid close-quarters moves like Palm Strike, as they are fatal here. Keep your Musou gauge ready for emergencies, granting you brief invincibility to survive mistakes or trapped in his combos.

During this phase, Lu Bu can be juggled effectively, allowing you to quickly charge your Battle Arts and deplete his Fortitude meter. Stay close to react promptly to his attacks, and remember, evasion is your best defense.

Lu Bu’s Final Phase

When Lu Bu’s health is sufficiently reduced, he enters Musou Rage, marking the final phase. Now unstaggered, he unleashes a relentless barrage of attacks. Your objective is to break his Fortitude before he executes his Musou Attack. Use all your remaining resources – Musou attacks, Battle Arts, and rapid strikes. If he successfully performs his Musou Attack, he’ll immediately follow with another, forcing you to restart the phase. Successfully breaking his Fortitude here will finally end the battle, allowing you to claim victory over this legendary adversary.

And that’s how to defeat Lu Bu in Dynasty Warriors: Origins! Dynasty Warriors: Origins is now available for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
