The Blood of Dawnwalker: Aiming for AAA Quality
30-40 Hour Main Campaign
In an interview with GamesRadar, creative director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz revealed that despite being a smaller studio releasing its debut game, Rebel Wolves is striving for AAA quality comparable to CD Projekt Red's The Witcher 3.
Addressing the often-blurred lines between AA and AAA, Tomaszkiewicz clarified the team's ambition: "In terms of quality, we definitely look at AAA, because this is where we are coming from, the quality level of The Witcher 3."
While Rebel Wolves is a new studio, its team boasts extensive experience. Comprising former CD Projekt Red developers who worked on The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, Rebel Wolves brings considerable expertise to the table. Mateusz and his brother Konrad founded the studio to pursue greater creative freedom than offered by larger AAA studios.
Tomaszkiewicz acknowledged the smaller scope of their first project: "Definitely, our games are not as huge in terms of amount of content and gameplay hours – we are a smaller studio, this is our first project, so we definitely are building something smaller. But we want to build something as robust in terms of quality, maybe a bit shorter." He targeted a 30-40 hour campaign, noting that AAA doesn't solely equate to sheer playtime. "If size is your measure, then yes it's not the size of a AAA like The Witcher. But I don't know if size is the measure, to be honest, because there are AAA games like Call of Duty that aren't 100+ hours gameplay campaigns. And I don't know if anyone would call them AA, or indie."
The Blood of Dawnwalker is a narrative-driven, open-world dark fantasy RPG set in the mystical land of Vale Sangora. Players assume the role of Coen, a young peasant who unexpectedly gains vampiric powers after encountering a powerful vampire. Coen embarks on a quest to save his ailing sister, navigating the dangers and complexities of Vale Sangora.
While a release date remains unannounced, The Blood of Dawnwalker is slated for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with a gameplay reveal expected in Summer 2025.
