The critically acclaimed series Shōgun, which swept 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is gearing up for a highly anticipated second season. Cosmo Jarvis, who captivated audiences as pilot John Blackthorn, is set to reprise his role and will also step into the position of co-executive producer for Season 2, as confirmed by an official FX press release.

In addition, Hiroyuki Sanada, who portrays Lord Yoshii Toranaga and signed on for the next season in May last year following the show's renewal from its initial limited series format, has been promoted to executive producer after his role in producing the first season. Production for Season 2 is slated to kick off in January 2026 and will take place in Vancouver, the same location as the original series.

PlayFX has described the upcoming season as "a wholly original new chapter to the first season," which was an adaptation of James Clavell’s novel. The network elaborated on the narrative arc spanning both seasons:

"In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Sanada) fought for his survival as his enemies in the Council of Regents united against him. When a mysterious European ship was found marooned in a nearby village, its English pilot John Blackthorne (Jarvis) shared vital strategic secrets with Toranaga that tipped the scales of power in his favor to win a century-defining civil war.

"Part two of Shōgun is set 10 years after the events of the first season and continues the historically-inspired saga of these two men from different worlds whose fates are inextricably entwined.”

Fans eagerly await new episodes, hoping to see more of this exceptional series by the end of 2026. Until then, anticipation builds as we look forward to what's next for Shōgun.
