The Battle of Hulao Gate is a legendary and challenging encounter in *Dynasty Warriors: Origins*, marking the climax of Chapter 2. Your objective is to defeat Dong Zhuo, but reaching him requires strategic planning and perseverance.

As you start the mission, focus on capturing the four enemy bases located in the bottom right of the map. After securing two bases, a cutscene will trigger, introducing a mounted cavalry led by Zhang Liao. Continue your assault on the bases, and defeating Zhang Liao will reward you with the twin pike weapon.
Once all bases are under your control, you can launch an attack on Hulao Gate, initiating a fierce battle against Dong Zhuo's forces. Your primary goal here is to protect Cao Cao until he can execute his Grand Tactic, which will weaken the enemy's defenses and pave the way to the gate.
Lu Bu Appears
When Lu Bu enters the fray, avoid direct confrontation at all costs. Engaging him one-on-one is a surefire way to meet your end. Instead, focus on eliminating enemy officers on the periphery to maintain your morale, which Lu Bu's presence will severely undermine.
Lu Bu will eventually move to attack your main base, targeting Yuan Shao. Resist the urge to chase him; Liu Bei and his forces will attempt to delay him, buying you time to focus on defeating Dong Zhuo. This creates a critical time constraint; you must defeat Dong Zhuo before Liu Bei's forces are overwhelmed and retreat.
Go After Dong Zhuo
After Lu Bu departs, quickly restock on meat buns at your conquered bases if needed, then return to the gate. While Cao Cao prepares his charge, take control of the northern and western bases. Once you have three squads ready and are fully healed, enter the closest commander's circle and charge into battle.
You'll face a massive army and Dong Zhuo's initial Grand Tactic of launching fireballs. Your priority is to destroy the front two catapults. Use Musou Rage if available to break through the enemy lines and clear a path to the catapults. Focus on defeating the soldiers and officers around them to allow your forces to demolish the catapults, ending the Grand Tactic.
As you advance, Dong Zhuo will deploy another Grand Tactic. This time, you must defeat one of his officers to stop it. Ascend the right stairs to confront the officer, but be prepared for an ambush by Diaochan, who has sided with Dong Zhuo. Dueling her, if possible, can prevent being overwhelmed by both her and the officer.
With the second Grand Tactic thwarted, the path to Dong Zhuo should be clear. Your forces, bolstered by high morale, should be able to handle his remaining troops. Even if Dian Wei initiates another Grand Tactic, it will further ease your path to victory. At this point, defeating Dong Zhuo should be straightforward, as his forces will be significantly weakened.
