Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Revealed at Xbox Games Showcase

Author : Skylar Dec 31,2025

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 made its debut at the Xbox Games Showcase 2025 with a cinematic reveal trailer.

Developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, this marks the first consecutive entry within the Black Ops sub-series. Call of Duty General Manager Matt Cox explained, "From the beginning, our team's vision was to craft a continuous Black Ops experience that captures the unique spirit of this legendary franchise."

No specific release date was announced. Here's the official description:

Equipped with next-generation technology, David Mason and his squad must confront a manipulative adversary who uses fear as their ultimate weapon.

Black Ops 7 is set in 2035, over forty years after the events of Black Ops 6, as the world teeters on the edge of chaos following the aftermath of Black Ops 2 and last year's installment. The co-op campaign makes a return after being absent from Black Ops 6, though the story can still be experienced solo. Multiplayer introduces near-future weaponry on all-new maps. It also features the next evolution of Round-Based Zombies, set deep within the Dark Aether.

According to Variety, the game will feature performances from Milo Ventimiglia, Kiernan Shipka, and Michael Rooker. Ventimiglia portrays David Mason, Shipka plays Emma Kagen, and Rooker returns as Mike Harper, reprising his role from Black Ops 2.

Announcing Black Ops 7 so soon after its predecessor may lead some fans to view it as an interim release, similar to how 2023's Modern Warfare 3 was perceived following 2022's Modern Warfare 2.

However, Cox emphasized that Black Ops 7 "offers the complete Call of Duty package, and we're excited to share more of the studio teams' work with the community in our full reveal later this summer."

Tyler Bahl, Head of Activision Publishing Marketing, added: "We aim to build on the incredible passion we've seen for the Black Ops universe. This is our first back-to-back release within the series, which allows us to give players more time to enjoy the live seasons of Black Ops 6 and Warzone before transitioning to Black Ops 7."

"Our teaser sets the stage for the intense, chaotic narrative awaiting players."

"Creating consecutive Black Ops games also gives our teams a fantastic opportunity to innovate creatively, moving from a '90s setting to a futuristic 2035 backdrop in our marketing."

Activision has confirmed that Black Ops 7 will launch on last-generation consoles alongside current ones, including Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via Xbox PC app, Battle.net, and Steam. As expected, it will be available on day one through Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. The announcement made no mention of the Nintendo Switch 2.
