Venture Into Cloisterwood
In Divinity: Original Sin 2, among the many herbs found in Rivellon, the Blackroot is arguably the most essential. You'll first need this herb to perform the Miester's Ritual in the fourth act of the game. Led by Miester Siva, you must craft a special Ritual Bowl by combining a ritual bowl, bloody obsidian lancet, and Blackroot to access the Hall of Echoes and unlock the Night Vision skill.
The first time you perform this ritual, all required ingredients can be found in Siva's basement. Each time you earn a Source point, you become eligible to perform the ritual again, but from then on, you must locate all ingredients independently. While obtaining a ritual bowl and obsidian lancet should be straightforward—especially if you already have them in your inventory—finding Blackroot can be difficult. If you've struggled to locate it, this guide will help you succeed.
Cloisterwood Exploration Tips
Cloisterwood is a dense forest in the northwestern part of Repear's Coast, just a short hike north of Driftwood. Once inside, hold down the left ALT key to highlight all collectible items.
You’ll eventually find several herbs, including Blackroots, growing at the base of trees. Though you only need one Blackroot for the ritual, it’s wise to gather a few as a precaution. For now, we won’t reveal how many times the ritual must be performed, but you can complete it each time you earn a Source point.
The forest holds many secrets: two NPCs who can grant Source points, an undead trader, and a formidable witch who offers a tough battle.
The two NPCs who help you gain Source points are Hannag and Jahan, with Jahan also playing a role in advancing Lohse's story. Hidden within ancient ruins is the undead trader Eithne. You can interact with her and select the "Divine Order" option to begin a side quest.
Far to the north lies a pier with the Dead Ferryman NPC, who offers passage to Bloodmoon Island. These are just a few of the notable encounters in Cloisterwood. Other hidden treasures await, including the Wrecker's Cave and the chance to obtain a unique lore master amulet by speaking to the spirit of a ship captain.
If this is your first time exploring Cloisterwood, take your time to search thoroughly. Avoid confronting the crucified witch Alice Alisceon until you’re at least level 15.
