The GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit flagged now-deleted social media posts displaying images and footage from an individual claiming to have purchased the game via an online marketplace. Multiple Twitch streams featuring Assassin’s Creed Shadows have emerged, though they are being swiftly taken down, according to VGC. The game is set to officially release on March 20, 2025. IGN has reached out to Ubisoft for comment.

Earlier this month, Ubisoft emphasized that preorders for the game remain robust despite a rocky development and marketing phase.
In its latest financial report, the publisher noted that "preorders for the game are performing strongly, comparable to those of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, the franchise’s second most successful title."
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot expressed optimism, stating, "Initial previews have praised the game’s compelling narrative and immersive world, highlighting the pivotal roles of both protagonists and the seamless integration of their distinct gameplay styles."
"I want to recognize the extraordinary talent and commitment of the entire Assassin’s Creed team, who are working diligently to make Shadows the most ambitious entry in the franchise to date."
Assassin’s Creed Shadows was initially slated for a November release before being delayed to February 14, and later pushed to its current date of March 20.
The game carries high expectations as the long-awaited Japan-set chapter and the first major Assassin’s Creed title since 2020. Ubisoft, grappling with recent underperforming releases and investor concerns, is banking on its success.
The promotional campaign has faced hurdles, with the development team issuing apologies for inaccuracies in the game’s portrayal of Japan and for using a historical recreation group’s flag without authorization.
Further controversy arose when collectible figure maker PureArts withdrew an Assassin’s Creed Shadows statue from sale due to its "insensitive" design.
