The streaming service currently has the project in development, Variety reports, though plot specifics remain under wraps. Confirmed details include Silverstone's participation, confirmation that the show will continue the storylines from the beloved 1995 film, and information about the creative team. Notably, this marks a fresh approach compared to Peacock's previously abandoned 2020 attempt at expanding the Clueless universe.
Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage — the visionary duo behind the original Gossip Girl series and its recent reboot — will co-write with Jordan Weiss. All three will executive produce alongside Clueless creator Amy Heckerling and original producer Robert Lawrence. CBS Studios and Universal Television are attached as production partners.
This certainly isn't Hollywood's first attempt to translate the hit comedy to television. Following the film's box office success, ABC and UPN aired a TV adaptation from 1996-1999 starring Rachel Blanchard as Cher — not Silverstone.
