11 Bit Studios, the acclaimed Polish developer, has unveiled a new trailer for their much-anticipated sci-fi adventure, The Alters. As the release date draws near, the studio also took a nostalgic look back at their breakthrough title, This War of Mine, which garnered them worldwide acclaim more than a decade ago.
While This War of Mine is renowned for its somber and often despairing atmosphere, The Alters introduces a narrative that is both passionate and infused with humor. It revolves around the trials and tribulations of alternate versions of the protagonist, Jan Dolski. Despite these stark differences in tone, 11 Bit Studios underscores a deep thematic link between the two games.
Both titles center on the theme of survival but approach it from different perspectives. In This War of Mine, players are thrust into the gritty, day-to-day struggle of civilians in a war-torn city, managing resources and facing constant threats to keep their group alive. Conversely, The Alters presents survival as a frantic race against time, where players must continuously relocate their mobile base to escape the destructive path of an unrelenting sun that reduces everything to dust.
Both games challenge players to step beyond their comfort zones, venturing into dangerous territories in pursuit of essential resources. The primary distinction between them lies in the protagonists: This War of Mine focuses on guiding a diverse group of civilians, whereas The Alters introduces a unique team made up of alternate versions of the main character, Jan Dolski.
The Alters is slated for release in 2025 and will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Fans can look forward to playing it on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass from launch day, ensuring a wide accessibility to this eagerly awaited title.
