007: First Light was officially showcased for the first time during the PlayStation State of Play event in June 2025, with a confirmed release date set for 2026. The game was announced with much fanfare and is currently being developed by IO Interactive, the award-winning studio best known for the Hitman series and the upcoming action-adventure title Mindseye.
This new entry into the James Bond universe will deliver an immersive third-person experience, reimagining the early days of Agent 007. Set across breathtaking global locations, players can look forward to dynamic missions, iconic vehicles, and gameplay that blends stealth, combat, exploration, and tactical decision-making.
Scheduled for launch on PlayStation 5, 007: First Light will also be optimized for PlayStation 5 Pro, featuring enhanced visuals and performance through the innovative PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution technology.
A Fresh Take on James Bond’s Origins
007: First Light will present a completely original origin story for James Bond—offering fans a never-before-seen perspective on the legendary spy. Players will step into the shoes of a young, unrefined Bond as he begins his journey from an inexperienced recruit to the elite operative the world has come to know.
At just 26 years old, this version of Bond is far from the polished, sophisticated secret agent depicted in films and previous media. He's impulsive, raw, and still learning the nuances of espionage. This is a James Bond who hasn’t yet mastered the art of charm, but whose instincts and determination begin to shape him into the legend he will become.
Bond starts his journey as a Royal Navy air crewman. Following a courageous act under pressure, he is fast-tracked into MI6’s most rigorous training program—one that will test his limits and mold him into a top-tier field agent. The narrative has been crafted in partnership with Amazon MGM Studios and stands independently within the Bond canon, offering a unique and compelling take on the character's formative years.
The game features a wide variety of stunning environments—from icy mountain ranges to sun-drenched tropical coasts—and introduces both classic characters such as M, Q, and Moneypenny, as well as new figures like Greenway, Bond’s enigmatic mentor.
