A traditional board game played in West Africa
Also known as Awele, Ayo, or Oware, Awale is a Mancala-style game typically played by two people. It shares similarities with East African games like Omweso, Bao, and Igisoro.
The game is played with 8 holes per player and 64 seeds.
Each player's territory is the row of holes closest to them.
The objective is to capture all or most of your opponent's seeds to prevent them from making further moves.
Other games in the Mancala family include Ayo, Kisoro, and Omweso.
Mancala games are believed to have originated in Ethiopia during the ancient Kingdom of Aksum.
